The key equity barometers traded with modest losses in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 22599-22426. Nifty IT, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Media shares advanced, while Nifty Metal and Nifty Realty shares retreated.
At 10:45 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, edged lower by 424.96 points or 0.59% to 72,213.74. The Nifty 50 index lost 176.05 points or 0.78% to 22,427.
The broader market surpassed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index fell 0.99% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index retreated 1.13%.
The market breadth was unfavorable. On the BSE, 1465 shares gained and 3131 shares declined. A total of 244 shares were unchanged.
Nifty IT index rallied 1.55% to 28188. The index has shed 7.46% in last one month and slumped 20.03% over last one year. Mphasis, up 2.43%, led the gainers followed by Tech Mahindra, edging up 1.74% and LTM, inching higher 1.73%, respectively. All 10 constituents are advancing today.
Nifty PSU Bank index moved higher by 0.27% to 8111. The index has edged lower 3.99% in last one month and edged higher by 6.66% over last one year. Punjab Natl.Bank, adding 2.06%, led the gainers followed by Bank of Baroda, gaining 1.73% and Canara Bank, up 0.63%, respectively. Out of 12 index constituents, 6 are reporting gains today.
Nifty Metal index slipped 2.02%. The index has lost 6.43% in last one month and spiked 21.17% over last one year. Adani Enterp., edging lower 4.86%, led the losers followed by Jindal Steel, down 3.14% and Natl. Aluminium, losing 2.33%, respectively. All 15 index constituents are reporting losses today.
Out of 14 sectoral indices on NSE, 11 are in red today. Nifty IT index has registered heavy losses of 7.46% in last one month and has recorded steep losses of 20.03% over last year. Nifty Metal index has plunged 6.43% in last one month and has recorded robust gains of 21.17% over last one year.
From NIFTY50 index, ITC, Vodafone Idea AND Vishal Mega Mart are leading in terms of volumes today, clocking turnover of 952241.93 lakh shares, 960.06 lakh shares and 5328.41 lakh shares respectively.
Asian markets fell on Thursday. China’s Shanghai composite is slightly lower by 0.46%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is trading lower by 0.55%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is lower by 0.75%.
NIFTY50 Oct-26 futures are in discount of 73 points today.
